For the Queens Birthday Holiday Long weekend I headed out to near Clifton/Layburn area to a roadside Bush Camp on the Condomine River called Victoria River Bush Camp.
Fires allowed, Dogs allowed, no facilities and 1 bar of 4G.
I hit a severe storm just before I arrived so the black soil was quite sticky for a day or so.
after the rain passed I grabbed a pic of the back of the storm
Next Morning the rain had gone and there was a bit of fog around on the water.
Sun quickly dried things out ... old mate turned up and camped right in front of me
I went for a walk to the bridge, there is another campsite on the other side of the road
looking back on my side
After cutting it up I laid the wood out to dry and had to make a new fire spot as old mate had camped too close to the old fire spot in front of my Ute
Monday Morning I packed up [closed the doors] and headed off for an explore
Leyburn is not far away and was the site of the first Australian Grand Prix held in Qld
On the ground its hard to see any trace of the old Airfield and Race Track although I did inadvertently drive most of the Track except for the bit at the top of Liberator Place which is behind a locked gate.
I headed home through Warwick and then looked up Google maps and you can faintly see the remains of the track.
