We found a short cut track to Camp 2 which went past a couple of small hills with Cairns on top of them and we climbed up for a look finding a couple of Brass Plaques about the Madigan expedition … A site that none of us had heard about.

We continued on past an old Case Tractor and turned left to find Camp 2 then continued south meeting back up with the track again.

Once at Camp 1A we headed West to try and find Camp 1 but there is no yellow star picket there it having been moved from the original site to site 1A which is on the track. an A has been added to it.
A pic of the original spot is all we could get then we carried on south to the Mac Clarke conservation area when we got a pic of the starting post and pumped the tyres back up and put the fourbies back to 2WD.
I drained the filter and the Ute is now back to normal again.

After about 200 kms for the day we camped beside the road to Santa Teresa and cooked up a Pork Roast to celebrate a successful crossing of the Madigan which turned out to be a hell of a lot easier than we thought.
Birdsville to Mac Clarke via the Eyre creek Bypass was 669 kms and we have a couple of hundred Kms to go to get to Alice Springs.

Friday 28th:
We had a quiet drive in stopping at a stock route we thought of trying but it was signed no thru road so kept going to Santa Teresa then the main road in to Alice Springs … bulk amounts of vehicles heading out of town to the community.
When we arrived in Alice Springs we topped up fuel again after 964 Km
Shane GU 4.2 TD = 181.5 litres
Brett 200 series 4.5 TD = 170 litres
Jeff BT50 3.2 TD = 151 litres
Phil 79 series 4.5 TD = 147 litres
