I went over to the old sugar wharf and watched the tourist boats head to the reef.

Wednesday 27-7-22:

I woke just before dawn and drove over the 4 mile beach to catch the sunrise then hit the road North to Mossman Gorge but found a huge big Information centre with shuttle buses up to the Gorge … As the road is closed and I could not find how far the walk is I gave it a miss and kept going.

The only National Park camping site is Noahs Beach and it is booked out for ages so I thought I’d head to Daintree Village and camp there but you could not have fitted a swag in there let alone a Ute so I drove out to the Start of the CREB Track.

I aired down to 26 hot all round and took a bit of a curve downstream to cross the Daintree River. probably should have gone down closer to the island as the water was headlight deep, made it ok but found the dash cam turned off when the tripod knocked the power plug.

I left the river at 9am and found the track damp but not wet and had recently been bulldozed so finished the hard bit to Yindilli Campground by 11.00am … very easy going... except for the side track i explores and managed to drive over a stump which got caught between exhaust and chassis... had to saw the stump off to get it out before i could move. That probably added half an hour to the trip making it about an hour and a half trip from gate to gate.

As I drove around the corner into Baird Creek I found a 2WD hiace campervan bogged to the sills in the pebbly base of the knee deep creek and a woman and child waiting there for her partner to come back.

After checking for tow points underwater I could find none so elected to run a chain around his axle and tow him out backwards.
He had contacted the owner of a tractor around the next bend and arrived back as I set up.

After an easy drag back I advised him of the best line so he could get through to the Yindilli campground on the other side and left so other vehicles who were backed up could get past.

He made it fine on my suggested line.

I drove on to the shed and turned right for Roaring Meg Falls Campground [according to the tractor owner it is no longer a campground and had just deteriorated as no one looks after it.]

Another Government fiasco, set it all up, make up stories, block everything off, fenced and bollarded then hand it over to people who didn’t want it in the first place.

I cleared a site of long grass to use, uncovered an old fireplace and set myself up for a couple of days.

Great spot … good swimming and canoeing, plenty of wood from the floods, no insects, lots of reptiles, protected from the winds, plenty of shade but also plenty of visitors.

I spent the afternoon visiting the Roaring Meg Falls to the North [road has gate and is fenced off so walk in] and the swimming beach to the South [accessible by 4wd] before sitting down by the campfire to enjoy the place by myself.
There was a single camp out near the beach but no one near me.
