Sunday 18th August.

We regretfully packed up and left our awesome campsite then stopped in at Biella Springs for a look at the artwork, then stopped at Canning Cairn before making our way to Well 16.

The track became quite rocky for a short while then the dunes were back with long sections of flat corrugated track as we made for Rankins Trolley.
Image

Murray Rankin had tried to push the trolley up the track but the sand got into the bearings of the push bike wheels so he ended up abandoning it beside the track.
Image

Well 15 was a restored well but we found a dead Rat sized animal stuck in the side of the well under water so we gave that one a miss and continued on passing an abandoned trailer a short time later.
Image

A small hill full of caves gave us a great view over the surrounding flat country then we moved on to Well 14 which also had a small memorial for Kevin Weckert who died of a heart attack near there in 2003.
Image

Image

Well 13 was hidden among the tall grass in the middle of a small forest of trees making it a bit hard to find and we ended up rejoining the CSR via a different track which came out near a burnt out Landrover.
Image

Cmon ... it was only a Landrover
Image

We collected some wood and made our way to Well 12 which had been restored and had a toilet as well so we set up camp and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon.

Monday 19th August

We skirted some salt lakes on our way to Well 11 then hit the corrugations to McConkey Hill for a look but decided not to climb it.

Image

Well 10 was probably the last of the Desert Wells as Cattle Yards and Windmills greeted us at Well 9.
Image

Image

There is an old stone hut on site which Forrester used as a Fort to protect against the Aborigines.
Image

there was a few washouts along the track.
Image

Well 8 and Well 7 were looked at.
Image

Image

We took a side track to Ingebong Hills which had a fair bit of Aboriginal Art around the overhangs at the base.
Climbing the crack between two cliffs to the top revealed an awesome panorama of the flat country all the way to every horizon and also revealed the awesome spectacle of layer upon layer of stacked rock sheets at all sorts of crazy angles … truly one of the best bits of scenery on the whole trip!

Well 6 had a great well and plenty of shady gums but was taken by another group so we elected to travel on passing a large group of Grass Trees on our way to the restored Well 5.
Image

Image

Image

We kept going passing Well 4B.
Image

We made camp at Windich Spring which unfortunately had all the nice shady spots beside the water fenced off and we were forced to camp well away from the Water on the shadeless dusty plain as it was too late to carry on, a couple of Geckos were in the wood we collected and they were relocated to a nearby tree.

Tuesday 20th August.

We took a few more pics and hit the road again.
Image

Well 4A had the pulley carved into a tree which was a little unusual.
Image

Image

Image

We continued on and almost missed Well 3A as we thought the “no through road” sign was warning us of a closed station track but Paul called us back and we headed out there for a look before returning back the way we had come.
Image

We were now passing a few station tracks
Image

We then continued on to Well 3 which was another restored Well.
Image

Well 2A was carved out of solid rock, no doubt a pretty big effort back in those days.
It had Corrugated iron sheeting covering it and a stone fence around part of it.
Image

Jeff found one of his new shocks was leaking badly but was able to limp along ok.
Sues EGR Valve was making wokka wokka wokka noises again so needs to be stripped and repaired again but had not gone into limp mode yet.

Well 2 had a windmill placed over the top of it and a gal tank beside it.
Image

Not long after we came out on a well graded gravel road so stopped for a group pic under the Canning Stock Route sign.
Image

Image

Image

We then drove on to North Pool [Well 1A] before driving out to Well 1 then finally driving in to Wiluna at the end of our trip.

We topped up with fuel with my Ute taking 239 litres and headed out to Gunbarrel Laager campground to enjoy a much needed shower and one last campfire with the group.

It had been a great trip with fantastic company and awesome scenery

All I had to do was put my spotlight back on, adjust the fan belt and replace the leaking [but still working] shock with one of my spares and I was all good to go on the next leg of the trip, The Gunbarrel Highway! viewtopic.php?f=2&t=87
