I pulled in to Archer River Roadhouse but it was packed so I drove across the Archer then turned right into a little rest stop and found a track at the rear and followed it for a short way to a more secluded campsite under a shady tree. I had lunch and a swim then decided to stay for the night.
Lots of road/bridge work going on.

Tuesday 9-8-22:
Headed off to Weipa this morning, not much to see along the way but low woodlands with the occasional car wreck and the odd snake [Keelback]

Must be the only place in Australia that has Traffic Lights on a dirt road ... we stopped, waited, nothing happened for 5 minutes, boom went up and lights turned green. ???

Stopped at Lorim Point for a look then fueled up and got something to eat... was going to shop but too many people for my liking so headed off again.

I headed North out of Weipa crossing the long single lane bridge over the Mission River.

Then crossed the Andoom Creek on another shorter single lane bridge.

I stopped at Red Beach for a look .

Away in the distance you can see the Mission River Bridge.

I headed out to Bouchat Beach passing a tight squeeze through the bush to get around a fallen tree and found a nice spot under the trees with a shallow fresh water stream nearby so stayed there as i had the place to myself.
A bloke left as i got there and left these fish in the water [ flathead grey mullet ] so to avoid any unwanted visitors i floated them off to the Ocean.

There is, or was, a camp set up here with sheds, well, shower, toilets along with a row of "Scarred Trees" cut and moved here during the Mining Operations.

It must be very disheartening for the people who build this stuff to see it all go to waste when they don't look after it and just burn areas with no thought to what will be damaged by the fire.
Then they dismantle buildings to use the bits off them to make other structures closer to the beach [by 20 metres] but the sheets all just get blown away by the next big wind.
The tides here are weird as its 10 hours between high and low so even though i had been here about 6 hours the tide had only come in half way.
