I called in at the Croc Tent and bought a shirt then drove out past Punsand Bay to Roonga Point and explored before setting up camp.
This looked like a nice spot and it was morning high tide ... lucky i checked the tide heights as look where the water went to on the night high tide ... 1200mm higher!
Tuesday 23-8-22:
Tides are weird so i never saw a high-high tide in daylight, only the low-high tide.
I packed up and headed towards town crossing the red river ... ok just a creek crossing.
I did some exploring down some side tracks then went into Bamaga to refuel and restock with food then drove back out to Loyalty Beach Campground and grabbed a great spot on the beach front, pity high-high and low-low tide was in the dark so i didn't get to see the mudflats covered.
I did my washing, topped up the water tank and washed half my tan off.
although you can see Seisa Wharf the phone signal was pretty crap here on the northern side of town so i could not upload my pics.
I filled up with water then drove south along the Umagico Track then turned right and followed a track past an old Quarry and on to the beach as i needed to load some pics to my website and this spot had 4 bars of 4G ... i liked the spot so much that i camped there.
These disposable R22 containers are everywhere on the Capes beaches ... i've seen dozens!
I spotted a log moving against the tide which turned out to be Bruce, a 3.5 to 4 metre saltie.
He Stalked me for over an hour but every time i walked down to the shore line to get a closer pic he moved out to sea keeping the same distance. pics are heavily cropped even with the 200mm lens.
Later in the day the smoke from down south obscured the sky so it was probably lucky i didn't end up camping out at Muttee Heads as it looked like that was where the fires were.
