Darling River Run 1-1-22

I had travelled a fair bit of the Murray River over the last couple of weeks and so decided that travelling back to Qld via the Darling River Run would be a good idea.

After finally dragging myself away from family and all that good food and company i hit the road back towards the Murray after lunch on New Years Day... was bloody hot so i stopped at Lake Calm for a swim.





Stopped at Swan hill and refuelled.





I headed out to Nyah-Vinifera NP and camped on the Murray ... as the sun went down it was still 38.3 C ... even the mossies stayed down at the water and didnt venture up the bank.

I stopped at Robinvale for a look around at the old railway stuff.

moving on I passed a lot of Vinyards.



saw a helicopter in a paddock.

I headed in to Hattah Lakes but wasn't sure i was allowed to camp near the Scar Tree [from bark canoe making] so moved deeper into the park to the next campground which was slightly flooded but there was too many people there so moved on.

I headed up towards the Murray often exiting a track to find a "management only" sign even though there was no signs on the way through.

I did a creek crossing about 450mm deep then turned left towards the river and a few minutes later the engine cut out ... finally found the "Engine Control" fuse blown ... put a new one in and she fired up no probs ... figured i might have got water in somewhere.

I spotted a couple of wallabies near the river and stopped for a pic then spotted a track over the bank to a great campsite near Britts Bend









It was a great camp spot and another very hot night with mossies around ... woke to a near flat Auxillary battery so moved on early.

I headed north following river tracks but kept finding the way by deep water in the dry creek beds so ended up going all the way back and through the creek crossing but she didnt stop this time and i found the other side of the tracks back near civilisation and popped down for a look ... was only metres from getting out of those tracks.

Back on the bitumen I headed north again stopping at Red Cliffs for a look ... couldn't see any Red Cliffs but did see a Big Lizzie... that thing was huge!

nearby was a painted water tower and an Old Howitzer.

I found the Red Cliffs about 5 Kms out of town.







I then hit the road north again crossing into NSW after passing through Mildura where i refuelled again.
